Shania Twain, one of the most successful singers to come out of Canada, has a sister named Carrie Ann Edwards. Carrie Ann Edwards is also a singer.

Being one of the music industry’s best-selling artists of all time, she is one of the few who managed to move more than one hundred million records.

Shania, Carrie’s sister, spent her childhood in Timmins, Ontario, and began performing live music at a young age in various restaurants and pubs.

Other than that, what does Carrie do with her own life now? In addition to Shania, she has a second sibling, her biological sister.

They were all raised in a dysfunctional environment, with Carrie’s parents divorcing when she was a young child and their stepfather being abusive throughout their childhood.

In the following piece, we will get into much more detail about Carrie’s family and their life together. Let’s get started!

Carrie Ann Edwards Siblings and Parents

Carrie Ann Edwards was born in the middle of the 1960s. Carrie Ann Edwards, sister of Shania Twain, was born in the middle of the 1960s in Windsor, Ontario, Canada; however, she spent most of her childhood in the nearby city of Timmins, Ontario.

Carrie Edwards is the daughter of Sharon (her mother) and Clarence Edwards. Carrie was named after both of her parents (father). In addition, she has another sister who goes by the name of Jill.

As was just mentioned, Carrie and her sisters had a difficult upbringing when they were younger. The split between her parents, Clarence and Sharon, was the catalyst for everything that followed.

Twain, her younger sister, was only two years old when they were forced to go their ways.

When some time passed, Carrie and her mother and sisters relocated to the town of Timmins, which is located550 kilometres to the north of Toronto. In addition, her biological father, Clarence, did not look back at anything and went out of his way to raise his kids.

Thus, this is also why Shania does not have the surname ‘Edwards,’ Instead, the singer uses the surname ‘Twain,’ which was her stepfather’s.

Her mother then remarried a man named Jerry Twain, and he adopted Carrie and her sisters.

Sharon met her second husband, Jerry Twain, in 1971, a year after Ann Edwards’ mother had relocated to Timmins.

At the time, Ann Edwards’ mother was living in Timmins. Jerry, Carrie’s stepfather, was an Ojibwa miner and forester. Jerry was Carrie’s stepfather.

After marriage, Sharon and Jerry started a family by having two sons, Mark and Darryl, who are Carrie Ann’s half-brothers and sisters.

Jerry later became Sharon’s legal guardian and adopted all her daughters, granting them membership in his First Nation clan.

However, the marital relationship between her mother, Sharon, and her adoptive father, Jerry, was tumultuous as they frequently got into arguments while they were together, contributing to their marriage’s instability.

Even Carrie’s mother was experiencing bouts of depression at this period. At some point, her sister Shania transported their mother and the rest of their family to a homeless shelter in Toronto.

But in 1981, Sharon remarried her second husband, Jerry, and they had a child together.

Carrie comes from a poor home in which there was frequently a lack of food. It has already been discussed previously. Consequently, her sister Twain began singing when she was only eight.

She used to sing at various bars in the area, and her primary goal at the time was to earn money to help pay the bills for her family.

The musician feels that Twain’s deep love of music was the driving force behind her success, although she did not want to sing in those bars. About the ordeal, she stated,

“Music was my greatest passion, and being able to play it helped me. There were times when I found myself thinking, “I despise this.” I detested going into pubs and spending time with inebriated people. But because I enjoyed the music so much, I managed to get through it.”

A car accident took the lives of both her mother and stepfather.

Tragically, Carrie’s mother, Sharon Morrison Twain, and her stepfather Jerry Norman Twain both passed away due to injuries sustained in a car accident. Shania Twain, a country music singer, had just turned 21.

On the other hand, her mother was 42 years old when she passed away, and her stepfather was 40 when he did so. Timmins Memorial Cemetery is the location of the burial for both of them.

How She Faced a Verbal and Physical Abusive Stepfather?

According to her sister Shania Twain, her stepfather Jerry Twain subjected her to physical and emotional abuse while living in the house.

The country singer has also admitted that she used to squeeze her breasts together so that they would go unnoticed in the home where she grew up. The performer stated,

“I hid myself and I would press my breasts against my chest. I would play it down by wearing bras that were too small for me, and sometimes I would even wear two of them. I would do this until there was nothing girly or feminine about me.”

Despite Carrie and her sisters’ string of misfortune initially, everyone is now succeeding exceptionally well in their fields.
