Noreen Austin, his niece, said Blake died of heart illness. He died at home in Los Angeles with his family. Blake, who played Barreta in the 1970s, planned a comeback.
He never recovered from the shooting of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, outside a Studio City restaurant on May 4, 2001.

He had forgotten to take it with him. The police did not apprehend Blake until one year after the incident that led to his detention because, originally, the authorities were perplexed.
After spending millions of dollars on his defence, the once affluent man is now forced to survive off social security and a pension from the Screen Actors Guild.
