Otis Williams’s life story

Otis Myles and Hazel Louise Williams welcomed Otis Myles Jr. into the world on October 30, 1941, in Texarkana, Texas.

Soon after he was born, his parents got divorced, and his mother got married again when he was a baby.

She moved to Michigan, leaving Williams with his two grandparents to nurture.

Williams’ mother moved him to Detroit when he was ten years old to live with her and his stepfather.

Otis Williams professional career

During his teenage years, Otis Williams developed a passion for music and went by his mother’s name, Williams Otis, for his stage name.

This led to the creation of multiple vocal ensembles, such as Otis Williams and The Siberians, The El Domingoes, and The Distance.

Williams and their manager Johnie Mae Matthews co-wrote a local hit song for The Distance called “To Come On.”

He and his team were forced to depart the band after the upcoming recording with the Distance didn’t work out.

“The Temptations” were later formed by Williams, Bryant, and Franklin, along with Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams from the Primes.

For nearly half a century, The Temptations reigned as one of the most prominent figures in the realm of soul music.

Nevertheless, the group went through so many upheavals and challenges that Williams and Melvin Franklin vowed to stay with the group forever.

Franklin stayed in the ensemble until 1994, when he was no longer able to continue due to physical limitations.

At the age of 53, Otis Williams was the last original member of the group still alive when he passed away on February 23, 1995.

In addition to being a singer, Williams co-wrote the 1988 book Temptation, which functioned as the group’s history and his autobiography.

As a member of the Temptations, Otis Williams was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. Stillman College granted him an honorary doctorate in 2006.

Williams first wed Ann Cain in 1967 and then again in 1973. In 1983, he wed Arleata Williams, his third wife, whose daughter was named June 1994’s Playboy Playmate of the Month.

Another name for him is “Big Daddy.” In 2004, Otis Williams fell victim to a death hoax that went viral on Facebook. But as of right now, he’s still alive and healthy.

On July 3, 1969, the couple’s daughter Elean was born. In June 1994, Elean was named Playboy’s Playmate of the Month. The parents separated in 1997.
